Vigil tonight to honor 6-year-old beating victim

It has not been a good week for kids in Delaware County.

A mother in Collingdale this morning will be charged with murder in the “acute heroin intoxication” death of her 11-month-old son.

You can read the update with the charges in that sad case here.

Earlier this week, Nether Providence was rocked by the case of a 6-year-old boy brutally beaten to death with a belt. His uncle now faces murder charges.

Tonight the community will come together to hold a candlelight vigil in the back parking lot of Nether Providence Elementary School.

The vigil is set for 7 p.m.

The Nether Providence Elementary School PTO has started the Tyreece Charlow Memorial Fund to raise money to offset the cost of Tyreece’s funeral. Donations should be brought or sent to the school, not brought to the vigil tonight. Checks should be made out to the Nether Providence Elementary PTO with 'Tyreece Charlow Memorial Fund' noted in the memo line.

There also will be a parents-only meeting held at the school cafeteria Monday night to discuss ways the Nether Providence Elementary community can honor Tyreece’s memory.
