Last stand for Chester Upland

It’s the last stand this morning for the Chester Upland School Board.

They will be in a Delaware County courtroom this morning, trying to convince Judge Chad Kenny why he should not appoint a receiver to take over the district.

I don’t think they’re going to be successful. I think Kenny rejects their argument and grants the petition filed by the state Department of Education.

This just might be the last chance for the troubled district.

Chief Recover Officer Joe Watkins will be given full power to implement his recovery plan in his new role as receiver.

It’s strong medicine, including closing several schools, slashing jobs and raising taxes. But he’s also calling for putting arts and music back into the curriculum.

We’ll let you know what happens in that courtroom this morning.

Is this the beginning of a new beginning for Chester Upland. Or the beginning of the end.

Maybe the Mayans were talking about Chester’s public schools.

We’re about to find out.
