Some not terribly surprising news from Chester Upland

File this one under maybe the least surprising news of the day yesterday.

Ax expected, the state Department of Education went to court yesterday to have the troubled Chester Upland School District placed back under state control. Also not terribly surprising, Education Secretary Ron Tomalis wants Chief Recovery Officer Joe Watkins to be appointed as the receiver for the district.

Watkins, as chief recovery officer, crafted the plan that was rejected by the elected Chester Upland School Board, setting up this legal scenario.

Delaware County Common Pleas Court Chad Kenny will hold a hearing Friday morning at which time the school board will be able to make their argument as to why they think the state’s petition should not be granted.

Good luck with that one, folks.

The recovery plan is coming. And it appears that Joe Watkins is going to be the man running it.

Now I suppose the only thing left to decide is just how much money Chester Upland wants to fritter away on lawyers fighting it.
