Corbett hits the (lottery) jackpot

The British are coming! The British are coming!
Unfortunately, they aren’t coming to take over the way Pennsylvania handles the sale of alcohol. No, the LCB is safe for now.

Instead a British outfit called Camelot Global Services is in line for a $3.5 contract to manage the Pennsylvania lottery.
Gov. Corbett, ever the suave PR guy, used that famous politicians’ trick to drop this little nugget on the public. The deal was announced Friday around 4:45, presumably when everyone in Harrisburg had their coats on as they headed for the door to start their weekend.
It’s pretty much standard political fare. When you’re doing something controversial or unpopular, drop it late Friday afternoon, then head for the exits.
Democrats and unions are not amused.
Today they will get to say just how ticked off they are when a Senate committee deals with the lottery contract. It should be interesting.
I guess privatizing the way Keystone State residents have to buy beer, wine and spirits will just have to wait.
