Some serious props for Shannon Sharpe

I’ve never been a big fan of hiring former players to be color analysts. That’s especially true when it comes to NFL telecasts. Too often the moves strike me as charity cases, and the players have little or nothing to add to the discussion.

Which is one reason why I think Shannon Sharpe is due some major props today for what he said after the Ravens upset the Patriots in last night’s AFC Championship game. After his team got thoroughly whipped by the Ravens, Mr. Patriot, the always gruff and tumble Bill Belicheck blew off the network, nixing an on-air interview with the TV people - and thus the fans - who pay for so much of the NFL.

Sharpe was not amused.

He lit into the famously disagreeable Belichick, chastising him for basically being a jerk.

Sharpe points out you can’t be one way after a win and then run away after a loss. It was something that needed to be said, and Sharpe was big enough to say it.

Good for him.
