Back-to-Back doesn't work in hockey

Flyers fans should have seen this one coming.

After as good a regular season game as you will see in Wednesday night’s wild, 6-5 offensive explosion over the hated Penguins, the orange and black did not have a lot left in the tank last night when they took the ice against the Panthers.

The result was pretty much what you might expect. The Flyers came out flat, gave up a couple quick goals in the first period, and never caught up, suffering an ugly 5-2 loss. Ilya Bryzgalov got pulled after giving up four goals.

This wasn’t hard to predict. This is all part of the fallout from the lockout. Hockey is not a game best played on consecutive nights. But that is what this compact schedule demands. And the results - at least for Flyers fans - were ugly last night.

Rob Parent has all the details.
