Can Delco capture Oscar gold?

We’re ready for our close-up, Mr. DeMille.

Actually, Delco has already had its close-up. We served as the background for one of the flicks nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award. That of course would be “Silver Linings Playbook,” which was filmed on streets in Upper Darby, Ridley Township and Ridley Park. A couple of local homes were used and Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence had their famous dinner scene at the legendary Llanerch Diner on Township Line Road.

The only thing I couldn’t figure out was why Cooper’s father in the movie, Robert DeNiro, was reading the Inky instead of the Daily Times.

The Oscars get handed out Sunday night, and we’ll have full coverage in the Sunday Times as we try to answer the burning question: Can Delco snag an Oscar?

But if you can’t get to Tinseltown, it doesn’t mean you can’t walk the red carpet.

There are two red-carpet parties right here in Delco, including one at the Llanerch.

Here are the details:

The Oscar Party launches at the Llanerch with the 8 p.m. broadcasting of the Oscars. IT's free so you should probably get there earlier. Complimentary champagne will be served after each win. The movie is up for eight Academy Awards, including best actor and actress for Cooper and Lawrence.

In the meantime, some of the folks whose South Madison Avenue home in Upper Darby was used in the film will hold their own soiree at Cawley’s Irish Pub, 7919 West Chester Pike. The fun there starts at 6 p.m. with a full buffet, Vodka “Silver-Tini” cocktails, a candy buffet and prizes and giveaways for Oscar-trivia throughout the night. Complimentary champagne will be served after each ‘Silver Linings’ win.

Both events are open to the public.

Cawley’s Pub will charge a $15 fee for the buffet which will also include coffee, tea and soda. A cash bar will be available. Reservations can be made for Cawley’s by calling 610-449-1194 (ask for Kim).

Llanerch Diner can be reached at 610-789-6057. A limited supply of “Silver Linings Playbook” merchandise will be for sale, including t-shirts and coffee mugs.

Let’s all hope that ‘Silver Linings’ snags Oscar gold!
