Doug Collins needs to start telling us how he really feels.
Can anyone even for a minute imagine Andy Reid reacting the way Collins did last night after his team dropped an absolutely brutal 94-87 road contest to the Thunderwolves.
“We played terribly,” Collins said in summing up his team’s effort. “It was terrible, no energy, no life.”
Gee, coach, nothing about having to do a better job or putting players in position to make plays?
Collins wasn’t going down that road. And he didn’t try to hide it.
“I can’t candy-coat it any more than that,” he said.
How bad was it? Minnesota scored one bucket - that’s as in single, uno - in the fourth quarter. And won by seven.
The Sixers have now lost seven straight road games.
For his part, Collins seems to be losing interest in this group. He’s already clearly had issues with Even Turner, and he’s been saddled with the season-long circus sideshow known as Andrew Bynum.
But give Collins credit for this. He has too much respect for the game - and for Philly fans - than to stand up there and try to give some kind of defiant Andy Reid non-speak about how it starts with him and he has to do a better job.
At some point the players actually need to do just that - do a better job. Reid never quite grasped that. Collins does. And he’s not going to try to hide it, or offer fans anything other than the brutal truth.
You have to respect him for that.
