Roy's back, & he's 'Phil-thy'

Here is maybe the best word Phillies fans have heard in months.

It’s not that the Phils are back in Clearwater, playing Grapefruit League Games.

It’s not the sight of Chase Utley and Ryan Howard back in the starting lineup, ready to play as the exhibition season dawns.

It’s not even Domonic Brown slamming a homer in a pinch-hitting appearance Sunday, serving notice that maybe - just maybe - he’s finally ready to live up to that hype that used to surround him.

No, all of that pales to the word that came from the mouth of Torri Hunter, the new right-fielder for the Detroit Tigers.

“Filthy.”

Hunter wasn’t talking about anybody on the Tigers’ staff.

He was talking about standing in Sunday vs. Roy Halladay. Looks like maybe the Phillies' ace is back.

After a rough spring and even rougher regular season that saw him wind up on the shelf with a bum shoulder, that’s music to Phillies fans’ ears.

Dennis Deitch has all the details on the first outing of the spring for the Phillies ace. Halladay went two strong innings, giving up just one hit, although it was a home run.

Halladay needs to be the Roy of old for this team to have a shot at getting back to the playoffs.

Yesterday was a good start.
