Leach looks to run for Allyson Schwartz's seat in Congress

State Sen. Daylin Leach looks like he has eyes on a bigger prize.

Leach, D-17, who represents parts of Radnor and Haverford here in Delco, is expected this morning to announce he will seek the seat in Congress currently held by Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-13. It's widely believed she will seek the Democratic nomination to challenge Pa. Gov. Tom Corbett.

Leach, who has gained headlines recenly with his latest push to decriminalize marijuana, will talk about his plans at a 10:30 press conference in Harrisburg. He will become the first candidate to openly announce he will seek Schwartz's seat.

Schwartz has been raising money for a gubernatorial bid, but has not made an official announcement in what is becoming an increasingly long line of Democrats looking to tangle with the incumbent Republican Corbett.

Click here for a look at the Democrats who could be in the running for governor, including former 7th District Congressman Joe Sestak. The latest to actually announce - which Sestak has not - is York businessman Tom Wolf.

Leach said that as a congressman he would like to set up a uniform national system of awarding Electoral votes. He has been a vocal critic of plans by Republicans, including state Sen. Dominic Pileggi, R-9 of Chester, to change Pennsylvania's winner-take-all system.
