Chester gets the royal treatment

Chester is about to get the royal treatment!

Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia are making a tour of the region. They will be in Philadelphia today, but tomorrow they will land in Chester.

And they should. After all it would be a little hard to mark the 375th anniversary of the founding of the colony of New Sweden without coming to Chester, which was one of the first destinations of Fins and Swedes back in 1638, when they arrived by boat in present-day Wilmington, Del.

The ceremonies in Chester will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Finnish Monument, Mother's Arc, on Concord Avenue in Chester. The public is invited.

From there it will be on Wilmington.

The ceremonies in Chester are open to the public. All are encouraged to arrive between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The king and queen visited New York and Washington earlier this week.
