Heat takes toll at Hero Bowl

Let me be the first to say it: We're havin' a heat wave.

It started Wednesday when we just managed to hit 90. Then things got serious yesterday with a  high of 94. We're looking for a repeat today. Then tomorrow and Sunday we're again expected to hit the 90-degree mark.

Three consecutive days in the 90s is what usually constitutes a 'heat wave,' according to the weather folks.

Maybe that's why tempers were running a little hot last night at the annual Hero Bowl. It's a shame that the football game that raises money for the children of fallen police and firemen was marred during a brawl near the end of the first half when several players exchanged blows. Matt Smith has the details.

Thankfully, order was restored and no other incidents occurred.

It's not just football players that can blow a fuse in this heat. I happen to like it, but I know it's not everybody's cup of tea.

Be careful and take it was out there.
