Phils win 3 straight, now just 3.5 games out

Remember all that gloom and doom surrounding the Phillies?

Never mind.

It's amazing what running off three straight wins can do, especially when the other teams in the division are treading water.

The Phillies last night got another decent outing from rookie Jonathan Pettibone, who gave them six and two-thirds solid innings, despite some control issues that led to him hitting two batters. Pettibone consistently pitched out of jams, while the Phils' beleaguered offense got a spark from Dom Brown and John Mayberry as the Phils rolled to a 6-2 win over Cleveland.

You can read Dennis Deitch's take on the game here.

The win moves the Phillies just 3 and a half games back of the Braves. And they're doing it now without their ace, Roy Halladay, and with their left-handed ace, Cole Hamels, off to a very slow start.

Hamels gets a chance to turn that around today when he takes the hill for a Businessperson's Special at 1 p.m.

Looks like maybe Chip Kelly and his daily playlist will have some company vying for attention in South Philly this afternoon.
