Domonic Brown continues his one-man wrecking crew act - and it's a good thing. Anyone care to think where the Phillies' offense might be without Brown's efforts.
Yesterday 'The Dom-inator' got the Phils off and running in the bottom of the first with a three-run blast. It was his eighth home run in eight days. He added an RBI triple in the second, pushing the Phils' lead to 7-0.
With Cliff Lee on the mound, the Phils finally get a laugher, right? Uh, not exactly. Nothing comes easy with this team. This one was no different. Lee exited with two outs in the seventh and a 7-1 lead, and things got very interesting from there.
Rob Parent has all the details.
The Phils got a huge break when what appeared to be a grand slam surrendered by Justin DeFratus was instead ruled a triple. With the Phils clinging to a 7-5 lead, Antonio Bastardo survived a shaky ninth. Closer Jonathan Papelbon was unavailable, battling a stomach bug.
Brown went 3-for-3 on the day, missing the cycle only because he failed to hit a double. It's about the only thing he did not do in putting the Phils on his back.
Brown drove in four of the Phils' seven runs. The red-hot left-fielder was in the No. 5 slot in the batting order after being moved up to No. 3 for a day. Phils Manager Charlie Manuel had been using Brown in the No. 6 slot.
In the last two weeks, Brown has raised his batting average to .282. He's hitting .400 during that clip, going 20 for 50 with ninie home runs and 20 RBI.
Brown was hotter than the weather that cloaked Citizens Bank Park. Let's hope today's showers that are expected to cool things off don't douse Brown's red-hot run. He's on fire, for a team that desperately needs a light.
