Inside an editor's head

Want a look inside the head of a newspaper editor.

Brace yourself, it's not pretty.

The tumblers in my head have a tendency to break down stories into three- or four-word bites. We call them headlines.

Every time someone explains a story to me, those tumblers start spinning and I spit out a possible Page One headline.
