It's summer in the city.
And in Chester, that often means an uptick in the scourge of the city, gun violence.
Last week was not a good one in the city. There were no less than four shooting incidents, culminating in a wild scene Friday morning when a gunman opened fire on a car, wounding two people and sending the vehicle careening into others. One victim eventually died.
Earlier in the week, police investigated two drive-by shootings.
Frustrated residents called for a State of Emergency - including a strict curfew that basically keeps people off the streets - similar to one that was imposed after a deadly string of shootings several years ago.
But Mayor John Linder and Police Commissioner Joe Bail have decided not to go that route. They believe they have a better plan to attack gun violence - and they will be here to talk about it tonight on our live-stream Internet broadcast, "Live From the Newsroom."
Linder and Bail will detail why they don't want to enact another State of Emergency, and also flesh out for residents what they plan to do.
If you have a question you'd like me to ask the mayor or city's top cop, email it to me at editor@delcotimes.com. I'll put to our guests tonight.
Then tune into DelcoTimes.com at 7 and take part in our live chat during the program.
Take part in the conversation. Be a part of the solution.
We'll be talking gun violence in Chester tonight at 7!
