At first glance it was just another wacky promotion by a minor league baseball team that is quickly becoming know for just such stunts.
Remember, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Phillies top Triple-A affiliate, are the team that brought you the urinal game to keep fans entertained while relieving themselves.
So I can't say I was surprised when I heard of their latest giveaway night. On Tuesday night the team was giving away a $10,000 funeral package.
You might say it was do die for.
Yeah, it sparked any number of jokes.
Right up until last night when they announced the winner.
The prize went to Steve Paul, 64, of Freemansburg, who got a standing ovation as he accepted his prize at Coca-Cole Park.
Why? Well, Paul was wheeled out onto the field to accept his prize in a wheelchair. That's because Paul has been diagnosed with ALS, the disease probably better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease for its most famous victim. It is a progressive nerve disease that typically leads to paralysis and death.

Good for him. And good for the IronPigs.
