Delaware County still has an animal control problem.
They've just moved it a few miles to the west.
Here's our editorial on the lingering problem that stems from the Delaware County SPCA's decision to get out of the animal control business a few years ago.
A plan to build a new shelter here in Delco proved to be too costly. Instead, the county through its Animal Protection Board now contracts with the Chester County SPCA to handle our strays.
Now many of the same complaints that were routinely hurled at the Delco SPCA are being lodged against the Chesco facility.
I'm not surprised.
Bottom line? Too many people still consider animals something that can be dumped. They can't. They are still a problem, both here in Delaware County and in Chester County as well.
And that means it's everyone's problem. Delco is still looking for a permanent solution.
