Same old, same old for Phillies

Chase Utley isn't going anywhere.

Neither is Roy Halladay.

If your were looking for big changes from this Phillies team, don't hold your breath.

Oh, and by the way, they lost again last night, again coughing up a game in the 9th inning, as they fell to the Cubs, 5-2.

The big news is that the team has a deal with second baseman  Chase Utley for a two-year extension. Dennis Deitch has those details.

That means that the heart of this Phillies team - you know, the one that the Braves can barely see in their rear-view mirror, the one that is 18 games back, and double digits back in the wild card race, will look pretty much the same next year.

Utley, if his knees hold up, will be at second. Jimmy Rollins, who signed a new deal last year, will be at short, and Ryan Howard, with that monster contract that makes it impossible for the team to do anything with him, will be at first. So long as his own cranky knee and ankle are OK.

Why don't I get the idea that fans will be storming the ticket office with this news.

Hey, Roy Halladay is heading to Clearwater to start a rehab assignment. It certainly appears as if the right-hander wants to be back on the mound at Citizens Bank Park before the end of this season. We'll see if he brings his velocity with him.

Good thing the Eagle season starts Friday night. Then again, if many more players blow out an ACL on the team's new practice fields, that might be no bargain either. The team probably didn't count on that when they decided to move training camp from Lehigh to the NovaCare facility in South Philly.
