Students and staff at Penn Wood High School head back to school today.
No doubt some of them will be holding their breath. It's the first time students will be in the Green Street facility since an arson fire devastated the school last spring, forcing officials to shut it down and move students to Cypress Street.
These kids are been through a lot. There is still a $22,000 reward in the arson case, which remains unsolved.
Then thieves decided to rub a little salt in the wounds this year. First, they targeted the band, ripping off a lot of instruments.
Then last week it was the football team. Vandals broke the locks on the storage lockers at Kerr Field and made off with a lot of the team's equipment, including pads and helmets. Some help from the community managed to outfit the team for their season opener Friday morning.
Here's to a great first day back in their Penn Wood home.
These kids deserve. We'll be there to tell you how it goes.
