A new low for Washington

There really aren't any words to describe what is happening in Washington, D.C.

Shame doesn't do it justice.

Disgusting comes up short.

Simple-minded is too simple.

How bad is it as we enter Day 11 of the standoff that has shut down the federal government?

I was struck this week by something - while they shut down the politicians, they don't offer the same courtesy to the soldiers.

The bodies of five American soldiers killed in action in Afghanistan were returned to Dover Air Force Base earlier this week.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel was there to greet them.

Incredibly, at one point earlier in the week the death benefits due the families of these men and women were in jeopardy.

A charitable foundation, the Fisher House Foundation, stepped in and agreed to make the payments.

Last night President Obama signed a measure to insure that the payments are made.

How ironic is it that a government shutdown jeopardized benefits of those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending the rights we treat so casually.

At this point, I don't give a damn about Republicans or Democrats; John Boehner or President Obama; moderates or tea party members.

Just do your damn job.
