They're in the pink in Haverford

Welcome to October.

Yep, summer's over. Where the hell did September go?

One of the many things highlighted in October is the battle against breast cancer.

We've done two things to highlight this crucial effort.

You'll see the first one when you pick up the paper today.

Yes, those are members of the Haverford High footballl team wearing pink jerseys.

They're taking part in a special breast cancer awareness fundraiser.

I have to admit when I heard about this story, my first reaction was, can we get a photo of these guys in their jerseys? The proof is on our front page today.

We'll follow this up tomorrow with a special partnership we've undertaken with Pennsylvania Hospital. Staff writer Kathleen Carey will kick off the first of five Wednesdays focusing in how the region is battling breast cancer.

Tomorrow's front page will look a little different. We will be using our left-hand rail to push the breast cancer awareness message. There also will be the symbol of the war on breast cancer - a pink ribbon - added to our masthead.

Our front page is some of the most valuable real estate in Delaware County. We don't take the decision to cede it lightly.

In this case, it's a worthy effort.

I hope you agree.
