Chip Kelly's QB conundrum

For some reason, Chip Kelly does not seem like he's in love with Nick Foles.

Maybe it's the ghost of Christmas past, and Kelly just can't get past what he saw Foles do at the Linc a few weeks back when - given the opportunity to seize control of the quarterback position - Foles threw up all over his shoes in a dreadful performance.

But Foles has been lights out in his last two performances. How hot has he been? After throwing 7 TD passes to tie the single-game Eagles and NFL record two weeks ago vs. the Raiders, he fired three more on Sunday in the win at Lambeau Field over the Packers.

But yesterday, in his Monday post-mortem, there was Kelly again playing it close to the vest, as yet unwilling to commit to Foles as his starter.

And not just for the rest of the year. I'm talking about Sunday's game at the Linc vs. the Redskins.

Kelly said he will continue to do what he has been doing, see who's healthy, who can practice and take the reps with the first team, and then make his decision.

Does anyone believe Kelly has any intention of not going with Foles on Sunday? Even if Michael Vick was completely healthy, which he is not going to be?

Neither do I.

But for some reason Kelly is loathe the jump on the Foles bandwagon.

Maybe it's because he remains unconvinced - as I do - that Foles is THE guy, let alone the Eagles quarterback of the future.

I'm still thinking Kelly is going to be looking for a QB of his own in next year's NFL Draft. In the meantime, Foles does not seem to mind the slight.

Hey, maybe it's motivating him.

Let's hope so. The Eagles have now lost 10 straight at Lincoln Financial Field, dating back to last year. That needs to end, starting Sunday.

If keeping Foles guessing as to his status, that's fine by me.

Here's Jack McCaffery's take on the Birds' QB question.

Phil, I like the fact that Chip keeps us guessing and our opponents. Nick having to go in and prove himself week after week is a good thing. Last weeks time consuming final drive was awesome. May not have been pretty but when have we seen our team eat 9 minutes to end the game.
