Election 2013: The numbers don't lie

Andy Reilly was right.

For weeks all the head of the Delaware County GOP had heard was how he was now leader of the 'minority' party in Delco.

Those upstart Democrats had beefed up their voter registration rolls, and now actually had a 6489-vote edge. Reilly's response to that was always that while the Dems might enjoy a lead in those raw numbers, he was confident that the GOP continued to have more 'active' voters, those who actually make it to the polls and exercise their precious rights.

You'd be hard-pressed to argue with him this morning.

Republicans swept all seven of the county-wide races in Tuesday's off-year election. They continue their iron-clad grip on the county courthouse.

In addressing the faithful at Springfield Country Club after the numbers came in Tuesday night - and after everyone exhaled, yes there was a new sense of angst in the room - Reilly was both gracious and pragmatic.

He congratulated the Democrats for their gains. But he made it clear he wanted no part of any description of Delaware County Republicans as the "minority" party in Delco.

This morning it's hard to argue with him.

The numbers don't lie. The GOP went 7-for-7.

In other words, they had a Nick Foles kind of night.

The Nick Foles who played the Raiders, not the one who looked lost vs. the Cowboys.

Delco Republicans have never looked lost, but they are facing new challenges.

So far they've been more than up to the task.
