Here comes Storm No. 3

Brace yourself.

First for the forecast. If you have not ventured out as yet this morning, let me offer a suggestion. Don't. It is seriously cold out there this morning. The temperature has now dipped into the teens, or approximately 70 degrees colder than my preference.

I guess we'll have to deal with it.

Here's something else we'll have to deal with. And again I'm talking about the forecast.

Call it the agony of the forecast, and the ecstasy of the local forecasters who react with glee every time a storm appears on the horizon.

It looks like we are getting something on Saturday. That will be Storm No. 3 of this pre-winter of our discontent.

It doesn't sound like Armageddon, but I'm sure that given 48 hours to hype it up, our forecasters will turn this into something just south of the Storm of the Century.

Raise your hand if you think we'll hear this from some breathless TV type on Saturday: All you can say on a day like this is, if you don't have to go out, don't. Of course, just cuddle up in front of the TV and watch our non-stop coverage of wet roads.

This sounds more like a nuisance storm, with snow arriving in the afternoon, then changing to rain Saturday night and into Sunday.

Luckily, it does not snow in the malls. I'm sure they would be grateful if you ignore all those warnings not to go out, let alone the bars and restaurants that depend on Saturday night business.
