Monday Morning Quarterback: Snowball's chance in hell?

Here is what I tweeted after the Lions' Jeremy Ross returned a punt for a touchdown, giving the Lions a 14-0 early in the third quarter.

"Ball game."

The Eagles had done nothing up to that point. Nick Foles looked lost. DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy for some reason insisted on running in reverse.

It was the Eagles, not the Dome Team from Motown, that looked complete lost in the elements as a mini-blizzard turned Lincoln Financial Field into a frothy, 8-inch deep pillow of white.

Then McCoy decided to don his Superman cape. It turns out "Shady" is really "Snowy," making like a super-charged Humvee as he obliterated the Eagles record book - and the Lions defense - in a game that will not soon be forgotten.

After doing nothing for more than a half, and giving no hint of turning things around, McCoy ignited a quarter and a half for the record books, bolting for touchdown runs of 40 and 57 yards, as the Eagles started running right at the vaunted Lions defensive line.

As good as McCoy was, his offensive line may have been better, taking over the game and moving the Lions out of the way like snow plows.

The Eagles put up 34 points, won their fifth straight game, and edged ahead of the Dallas Cowboys, who play tonight in Chicago, in the NFC race.

This team is quickly turning into something special, something that is as unexpected as Sunday's weather. They had every reason to pack it in early yesterday, when they trailed by two scores and conditions appeared to be deteriorating by the second.

Instead, they once again saved their season in a game for the ages.
