We're about to get a break from the winter of our discontent.
Big time.
While it is still way too cold for my taste out there this morning, the region is waiting for a serious warm-up, including a possible record warm day on Sunday.
No doubt malls and small businesses that have seen holiday sales hammered by nasty weather the last couple of weekends will be cheering the news.
The temperature will rise into the high 40s this afternoon, then the serious warm-up begins. The forecast calls for temperatures in the 50s both Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, believe it or not, the thermometer is supposed to push close to 70 degrees. On the down side, there also is a chance of wind and rain, which could affect that Sunday night soiree they are holding down at Lincoln Financial Field.
The record high temperature for Sunday is 62, set back in 1998. The normal high for the day is 42. Our record high for today is 70, set just a few years ago in 2006.
It will cool off a bit to 52 on Monday. By then most of the snow that has accumulate with our string of pre-winter storms is likely to be long gone.
If you're banking on a white Christmas, I wouldn't get my hopes up. The temperatures will dip to 52 on Monday, but there is no sign of more snow before Christmas Day.
Global warming? Bring it on, baby!
