The life of the Pa. Parties - in NYC!

If you live in Pennsylvania, this is one of the most galling weekends of the year.

Yes, it's time once again for the annual gala of the Pennsylvania Society, when the powerful, the wannabes, and the movers and shakers in Pennsylvania politics gather to pat themselves on the back.

Unfortunately, they don't do this in Philadelphia. Or Pittsburgh. Or even Harrisburg. Hell, they don't even do it in Bird-In-Hand, though they might have more fun there.

Instead, the swells will gather, as they have for the past two decades, in New York City. That's right, forget the Big Pretzel. The big hitters in Pennsylvania politics instead will gather in The Big Apple.

It's a weekend of parties, politics and shmoozing. And since we are headed into a gubernatorial election next year, with Republican Tom Corbett looking especially vulnerable, everybody who is anybody in Pa. politics will be there.

But why New York? Why not spend all that money and stimulate the economy right here in Pennsylvania. The Waldorf-Astoria will be packed to the gills with Pennsylvania power brokers with their pockets full of money looking to see and be seen in the political event of the year.

It's an outrage. Every Pennsylvanian should take it as a personal insult.

Think about that, about the party going on inside the Waldorf, while you are out shoveling the driveway on Saturday.
