A special preview of MLK events here in Delco

We had a very special 'Live From the Newsroom' last night. My thanks to three great panelists who offered their thoughts on the coming annual MLK Day of Observance on Monday and the legacy of the great civil rights leader.

If you missed the show, you can catch the replay here.

Delaware County has a very special connection to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, who spent two years living in Chester where he attended Crozer Theoglogical Seminary.

That was not lost on my special guests, Twyla Simpkins, from the YES Center in Chester, and chairwoman of the MLK Commemorative Committee of Chester and Vicinity; Janet Riley-Ford, who heads the Boys and Girls Club of Chester and the Chester Youth Collaborative; and Cynthia Jetter, from Swarthmore College and also a member of the MLK Committee.

All three stressed how much is going on in the city and county this weekend to honor the legacy of Dr. King, and very much agreed with the movement to make the day a "day on" as opposed to simply a "day off."

Hundreds will take part in a very special event slated for Sunday that's been labeled "Pieces of Peace."

The events will kick off at the Chester Boys & Girls Club, 201 E. 7th St. in Chester, at 9 a.m.

My thanks to all three women for a vibrant discussion of what to expect this weekend, and their firm belief that the legacy of Dr. King is really something that needs to be embraced 365 days a year, not just one day in January.

They also proved once again how much good is occurring in the city of Chester.

We sometimes lose site of that.

It's good to be reminded.
