The bizarre saga of former Marcus Hook Mayor Jay Schiliro came to an end in a Delaware County courtroom yesterday.
You can get the details here.
Despite pleas from family and friends, Schiliro was sentenced to 10-20 months in jail. That will keep him here in Delaware County Prison, instead of in a state facility.
Back in November, Schiliro was convicted on charges of reckless endangerment, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, official oppression and furnishing alcohol to a minor in a wild saga involving a 20-year-old man who he had delivered to his home. The night went downhill from there, including alcohol and gun play.
I've met Jay Schiliro several times. I always liked him. He struck me as someone who deeply cared about the town he lived in, especially in the wake of the refinery shutdowns that threatened to alter life there forever.
But it's also clear he had other issues going on.
I think the judge made the right call.
