An icon leaves gaping hole in Upper Darby

I used my weekly print column today to honor an old friend.

I'm not sure the people of Upper Darby yet know what they will be missing when state Rep. Nick Micozzie calls it a career at the end of the current term.

Micozzie announced last week he would not seek re-election. He is 83 (not 85 as we reported, which prompted a friendly jab from the pol last week).

I like Nick Micozzie. He's old school. He does things with a handshake.

And very few people got as much done for his constituents as Micozzie did during his 36 years in Harrisburg. The people of Upper Darby and surrounding towns have no idea how much they're going to miss that kind of clout.
