Everybody knew the Sixers were going to be bad this season.
The idea was to lose games in order to improve their chances of getting a top pick in next year's draft.
Some people call that tanking; the Sixers simply call it rebuilding. In fact, they coined an advertising slogan after it: Together we build.
So no one should be surprised when the Sixers lose.
But there is losing - and then there is LOSING.
The Sixers managed to do something on this West Coast trip that no other team in NBA history has done. That is get beat by 40 points in successive games. Actually, the franchise has done this one other time, but no other NBA team has.
After getting pasted by the L.A. Clippers, the Sixers moseyed up the Left Coast to Golden State, where they got pulverized last night 123-80.
Let's review those numbers. Sunday night it was a 123-78 loss to the Clippers. They followed that up with another epic fail.
There might be a plan here, but it's hard to discern just what it is at this point.
The players don't have any answers. An AP report from Oakland indicates most had cleared out by the time the locker room was opened after last night's debacle.
Coach Brett Brown offers the same "Andy Reid-like" talk night after night.
And to think that after being embarrassed by 40 points on successive nights, the Sixers still don't have the worst record in the league. That distinction is still owned by Milwaukee.
I guess they just have to play a little worse.
If that's possible.
