Remembering Dante DeSimone

I used my print column today to note the things we see every day and take for granted.

It struck me as I drove into the office last week and noticed that the shrine outside the McDonald's in Clifton Heights was still there.

I made a mental note to ask our police reporter to check on the status of the investigation of the crash.

The D.A.'s office beat me to it, calling a press conference and announcing charges against one of the driver's in the case.

It still doesn't change for me what is the cruel truth of the situation. One moment Dante DeSimone was doing what all kids do, and the next he was gone. Just like that.

It's just too sad.
