Sounds of silence in Collingdale

In Collingdale, the silence is deafening.

Police know what kind of car struck and killed a 58-year-old borough man Friday night. They have a pretty good description of the vehicle, a late model tan or silver SUV.

What they dont' have is the vehicle, or the man driving it.

This despite getting as many as 50 leads.

Yesterday, police fanned out across the town handing out fliers with a description of the vehicle and the suspected driver.

In the meantime, the famiily of Tim McCaughan waits, and mourns. They want only one thing. They want the person who hit the beloved father and grandfather to turn himself in.

At this point, you have to think the SUV is likely stashed in a garage, maybe under a tarp. I still find it hard to believe that the driver could hit someone and then flee. It's not like he didn't know what he did. A witness who was behind the SUV said the driver actually stopped, got out and muttered a couple of expletives, then got back in the SUV and fled.

He left Tim McCaughan to die in the street.

He'll be caught. It's only a matter of time. But it would be nice if this person would do the right thing and turn himself in, bringing a little relief to a family in agony.
