Welcome to the March Madness of Delco Pizza

This all started last week when a little slice of Delco - as in Pica's distinctive rectangular pizza with the sauce on top - showed up on the "Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon and Upper Darby home girl Tina Fey.

The story exploded after I posted it on our website and the Daily Times Facebook page.

I put the story up just before 7 Tuesday morning. By 9:30 the item on the Daily Times Facebook page had been viewed 50,000 times. The final count for the page over a couple of days was close to 100,000 views.

There was something else we noticed about the people posting and commenting on the story.

Delco folks have some serious feelings when it comes to their pizza.

Many lauded Pica's as the best in Delco. Others were quick to chime in with their favorites.

That's when online editor Vince Carey got the idea to take this pizza passion and turn it into our very own version of March Madness. You know, the Field of 64 put and bracket mania put together each spring by the NCAA.

Welcome to the March Madness of Delco pizza.

You can get all the details here, and learn how to vote for your favorite. Being as how we are 'digital first' these days, all the voting will be done via Facebook and Twitter.

The four heavyweights in this tourney clearly are Gaetano's (which so far has the biggest backing), Pica's, Clank's in Marcus Hook, and Imperial in Secane.

Once we narrow down the field, we're going to hold the finals and crown a Delco pizza king on our 'Live From the Newsroom' show.

So here's the question: Who has the best pizza in Delco? Let the March Madness begin.
