Who ran down Tim McCaughan?

Somewhere in Delaware County or close by, there is a tan or silver-colored SUV probably sitting in a garage or under a tarp, hidden from view.

Much like the person who was driving it Friday night, it can run, it can even hide, but it will eventually be brought to light.

The person driving that SUV snuffed out the life of Timothy McCaughan, a beloved father and grandfather from Collingdale. Two days later, there is still no word on either the SUV or the driver.

Collingdale police plan to go back to the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Spruce Street this morning to recreate the accident scene.

In the meantime, the family of McCaughan continues to mourn.

They want justice for the person responsible for taking the life of their loved one.

Amazingly, the driver actually stopped after striking McCaughan, got out of the SUV, inspected the body, muttered a curse word, then promptly climbed back into the SUV and fled.

Now it's time for Delco to do what is does best, rally around a family in need.

A woman who was behind the SUV did her part, she stayed with McCaughan as he lay crumpled on the ground until first responders arrived.

And she provided police with a description of the SUV and the suspected driver.

He is believed to be a light-skinned African-American or Hispanic male, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with a full, close-cropped beard, short curly hair and a stocky build. He was wearing a jacket with red in it.

The family hopes the driver will turn himself in. It's not like he was not aware of what he did, after he got out of his vehicle and inspected the body.

If he doesn't, we hope someone who knows who he is - or at least suspects something - will pick up the phone and call Collingdale police at 610-586-0502.
