A sick act in Brookhaven

If this was an April Fool's joke, it wasn't funny. It was sick.

Police in Brookhaven say a maintenance man found razor blades taped to playground equipment in a borough park.

That's right, a popular meeting spot where parents take their young kids to play. Eaton Park is a magnet for children and people walking their dogs. Now there is something else in the air besides fun. It's fear of someone who could sink so low as to do something like this.

Luckily, no kids were injured.

You can get the details here.

This sounds like an incident that occurred last week in northern Illinois. In that incident, several people were cut by razor blades that had been left on playground equipment. Thankfully, that didn't happen here. That does not make the concern any less - or the outrage any less passionate.

Needless to say, a lot of people in town are outraged - and worried.

"Jim Deprophetis is president of the Brookhaven Town Watch. He summed it up pretty succinctly. "It's sick. Plain and simple."

Pretty hard to argue with that.

Now I know that yesterday was April 1, April Fool's Day, a day traditionally used for any manner of pranks and tomfoolery.

This isn't funny.
