Saint Joe's, 'Nova both had UConn on ropes

Here's something to think about as you want to the skies to clear and the Phillies to commence with the home opener this afternoon.

That UConn team that just won the national title last night?

They were down by 10 points to both Saint Joe's and Villanova.

The Hawks had the Huskies by the throat with just two minutes left in the opening game of the tournament but could not slam the door. UConn survived, rallied again to beat Villanova, then rolled to a national title last night by beating John Calipari and his Kentucky team.

In the process, they once again proved my theory on the NCAA tournament: Don't bet against the team with the best guards. Shabazz Napier was the best player in the tournament, and his with his partner Ryan Boatright they controlled the game again last night.

Hats off to former Sixer Kevin Ollie for capturing a national title in just his second year at the helm after taking over for the legendary Jim Calhoun.

And how about this: The UConnn women can make it a double-header tonight when they battle Notre Dame - and local product coach Muffet McGraw - in the women's final tonight.
