In God We Trust, but don't ask about the deficit

It's comforting to know that, as usual, our fine representatives in Harrisburg have their priorities in order.

The state is facing a budget crisis, with tax collections tanking and a sea of red ink to the tune of more than $1 billion threatening to engulf the Commonwealth.

A pension crisis that threatens the budgets of every school district in the state continues to tick away. Liquor privatization is going nowhere.

The governor is expanding natural gas drilling, possibly as an olive branch prelude to a push to enact new taxes on drilling.

But before any of those matters were taken up, the House of Representatives yesterday took the time to pass a bill that would allow schools to post 'In God We Trust' and the Bill of Rights in buildings.

No wonder they call us Pennsylvania, Land of Giants.
