The good news for Phillies fans is that the team is hot again, winners of four straight. Last night they recovered from being no-hit by Matt Garz for 7 innings to blow the game open and win in a rout, 9-1.
The bad news?
Now they have to come home.
For some reason, this team seems to play better on the road than in the comfy confines of Citizens Bank Park.
The Phils are just one game under .500 on the road at 23-24. But in South Philly they are a miserable 18-27.
That's one of the reasons they remain 10 games under .500 at 41-51 and nine game back of the 1st-place Nationals and Braves.
They get a chance to reverse that starting tonight when they open a weekend set at the Bank vs. the Nationals.
In the meantime, the clock is ticking toward the trade deadline. Most people still believe it's time for Ruben Amaro Jr. to push the plunger, blow up the core of this team, and start the rebuilding process.
But should the Phils take the home series from the Nats, things might get interesting.
Of course, unless they can reverse the curse of playing at home, none of that will matter.
