The sounds of summer in Delco

I've always said Pennsylvania should change its motto.

We should erect signs at all our borders welcoming travelers: "Welcome to Pennsylvania, you can't get there from here."

In other words, it's summer road constructions season, meaning those horrendous commutes are about to get worse.

This is actually good news. The state's infrastructure is crumbling around us. You don't have to look far for evidence.

All those people trying to get to Rehoboth and cursing their fate as they crawl along I-95 through Wilmington because of the closure of I-495 because of that failing bridge.

Several rail bridges here in Delco have been identified as being in very bad shape.

The problem has always been money. Now the state has the money, thanks to the infusion of revenue from that $2.3 billion transportation package that was passed last spring.

Now comes the hard part. Traveling by car this summer is going to be a challenge.

Staffer Jeff Wolfe has the rundown on the local road construction projects.
