Gov. Tom Corbett has a new post-primary campaign ad out. In it he proclaims he "did not go to Harrisburg to make friends."
Apparently that includes members of his own party.
The governor is expected to make a statement later today concerning the $29.1 billion state budget plan that passed the Legislature last week.
But Corbett has opted not to sign it. It is the first time he has failed to deliver a spending plan on time after three straight years of on-time fiscal plans.
Maybe that's because he's in a decidedly uphill re-election fight. I'm not really sure.
Apparently neither are some powerful members of his own party.
Remember, Republicans control both the state House and Senate. But some in the GOP are openly wondering what the governor is up to, puzzled by his silence since the Legislature signed off on the spending plan, which holds true to something dear to the governor's heart - it does not raise taxes.
The governor is said to be irked that one of his priorities, fixing the sea of red ink that threatens to engulf the state's two major public employee pension systems, has been ignored by the gang in Harrisburg.
That means he once again went 0-for-2 on his two major legislative proposals. Another push to privatize the sale of liquor in the state also wound up on the rocks.
It's confounding how Corbett, with majorities in both the House and Senate, consistently fails to get things done.
Now we're about to find out what he wants to do with the budget.
I'm pretty certain tossing it out the window and starting over is off the table.
