Will World Cup fever continue in U.S.?

If you listen hard enough, you can still hear the faint chants.

"I believe that we will win."

"I believe that we will win."

"I believe that we will win."

That was a week ago, with World Cup Fever gripping the nation.

But the U.S. fell to Belgium, 2-1, in a thrilling game with just seconds left in extra time.

The question now is how much time will it take before soccer joins the Big Four in terms of the attention of American sports fans.

We'll start to find out this afternoon.

The U.S. may be out, but the World Cup goes on, headed toward another championship game this weekend.

This afternoon Brazil, which is hosting this year's World Cup, will play Germany in the semifinals. In the other contest on Wednesday, the Netherlands will tangle with Argentina.

The winners of the two games will play in the championship game on Sunday in Rio.

I'll be interested to see how much attention the U.S. pays now that the Yanks have been eliminated. Will the bars again be packed.

Hey, if the choices are watching this dreadful Phillies team and a World Cup game, I just might opt for soccer. They both score at about the same rate.
