We must be getting close to election season - and we're still weeks away from Labor Day.
Used to be the fall campaigns did not start until summer was over. Those days are long gone. Now it sometimes seems like all campaigning, all the time.
Are you tired of the Wolf and Corbett ads yet?
Today our regional editorial board is getting a visit with state House Majority Leader Rep. Mike Turzai, R-28. The Republican from Allegheny County was in Philly yesterday to talk about funding for Philly schools and that controversial cigarette tax for city residents only the district says it needs to get the schools open on time.
Turzai pledged to work to get it passed, but admitted it likely will not happen until September. School officials still are not guaranteeing they can get city schools open on time.
Turzai will be here in our offices in beautiful downtown Primos.
I plan to ask him about the state pension crisis, as well as other state budget items, including education funding - a hot-button issue here in Delaware County.
But the truth is there is another reason I am looking forward to meeting Turzai. He is one of the state's leading proponents of one of my favorite topics - getting the state out of the booze business. So you can bet I will ask where that issue stands, even though I think I know. It's not going to happen.
How about you? Do you have a question for the House Majority leader. Do you, like me, wonder why, with a Republican governor and GOP control of both the House and Senate, Gov. Tom Corbett has so much trouble getting his key agenda items passed?
If you have a question you'd like to see Rep. Turzai answer, email it to me at editor@delcotimes.com and I will put it to him during our session this afternoon.
