13 years later, a brilliant blue memory

Thirteen years later, it's still the thing I will always remember first.

A brilliant blue sky.

Sept. 11, 2001, was simply picture perfect, with an azure sky that you could not have painted a more perfect shade of blue.

It is always that sky I will remember, before that ominous plume of white smoke stained it - and our nation - forever as it billowed from a mortally wounded World Trade Center.

One plane into a skyscraper could have been a horrific tragedy. Two was not. We were under attack.

We still are.

Thirteen years later, we are still fighting the terrorists who wish to do us ill.

President Obama last night addressed the nation and laid out his plan to eradicate the latest virulent form of radical Islamic terrorists known as ISIL. These are the people who have gained headlines by beheading two American journalists.

In the days, months and years since 9/11, it has become something of a buzzword.

Never Forget.

That was once again the message being delivered by the president last night.

The only thing missing was a brilliant blue sky.
