Print readers of the Daily Times are a loyal bunch. They call me every day and insist they have been reading the newspaper since it was 'The Chester Times.'
It's true. Our roots lie deep in the city of Chester - and all of Delaware County.
We take that bond pretty seriously.
We don't tinker with our formula without good reason.
It's been more than a decade since we've changed the look of the newspaper.
That changes on Tuesday, when we roll out a new look for the Daily Times.
Relax, we're still retaining our commuter-friendly tabloid format. No, as I've been asked by several readers, we're not reducing the size of the page again. Nor are we raising the prices.
But we will have a new, fresh look. I love it. I think readers will as well.
Our backbone, rock-solid coverage of what is happening here in Delco will not change. We will still devote the entire front of the newspaper to Delaware County News. But the presentation will be much more reader-friendly.
The makeover of the Daily Times will bring your our same, award-winning local news, sports and features that you’re accustomed to, only in a repackaged, easy-to-find format.
You’ll see new features throughout the paper, including information boxes that will give a glimpse of what’s inside the paper, what’s inside a story, or where you can find more information pertaining to that story or topic online.
We're all in a rush these days. And the print edition is being redesigned with that in mind. There will be a mix of information for those with just a little time, and longer stories for those who have more time to spend with us.
Our new look utilizes color to emphasize identify what kind of story we're presenting. Those colors will immediately let a person glancing at Page One know where a story can be found.
All the items our readers have banked on for years will still be there: Horoscopes, Dear Abby, TV listings. We're retaining all our beloved comics, though some might appear on a different page. And of course, we're not going to leave Sound Off behind. It will still appear every day.
The daily lottery numbers will still always appear on Page Two, so readers can quickly check their tickets for a winner.
On Fridays our Weekend section will continue to give you a complete rundown of what to do in Delco on Saturday and Sunday, along with movie reviews and a guide to local nightlife.
It all starts Tuesday.
If you've been reading us since we were the Chester Times, I think you're in for a whole new ballgame!
