Philly unions to Delco GOP: Bucks stop here

The heated race for that open 26th District state Senate seat is coming to a full boil.

Forget seeing red. These guys are seeing green.

In politics, as in just about everything else, money talks. And yesterday a group of union leaders from Philadelphia held a press conference to deliver a message to the Delaware County GOP: The bucks just might stop here.

The union guys are ticked at the way County Council Chairman and Republican Senate candidate Tom McGarrrigle have been portraying his Democratic challenger, John Kane.

Kane just happens to be the business manager of Plumbers Union Local 690.

McGarrigle is running an ad that links Kane with contributions from Philly union leader Joe Dougherty, who is in the middle of an intimidation case.

Yesterday, a phalanx of union leaders stepped up to defend Kane and torch the Republican ad.

Then they got really serious.

The union guys hinted they just might shut off the flow of campaign contributions to Delco GOP candidates. That numbers comes to a tidy $1.7 million since 2010.

You can get all the details here. I indicated that the race for the 26th District seat being vacated by Sen. Ted Erickson was going to be one of the most high-profile in the state. It hasn’t disappointed me so far.
