The verdict on our new look

The calls are continuing to come in fast and furious.

So far I've been pleasantly surprised by how many people have indicated they like the new look of our redesigned print edition of the Daily Times.

Of course, that opinion is not unanimous.

Or, as one woman succinctly informed me: "It's terrible, it stinks. Go back to the old way." No, change is never easy.

But we are in fact changing, not just in the way we deliver information, but also the tone and feel.

I want to assure readers we have no intention of losing our focus and our primary mission, that of course being our vow to be the newspaper of record here in Delaware County.

Yes, you are seeing more regional content in the paper every day. We are picking up stories from our sister papers in both Chester and Montgomery counties.

We are not doing that at the expense of local copy here in Delaware County.

We are using them because we think they have merit and are of interest to our readers.

For instance, today we are featuring the story of a longtime volunteer firefighter in Valley Township, which is just outside Coatesville in Chester County, who has been charged with stealing $300,000 from the fire department coffers over a period of several years.

I have to think that every volunteer firefighter in Delco knows about this situation and is interested in getting the details.

We also are continuing our push to deliver news around the clock to readers via our website, DelcoTimes.com.

This morning we have news and a photo from the scene of tragedy on the campus of Elwyn Institute out in Middletown. Fire took the life of a resident in an assisted living facility. Dozens of other residents had to be rescued as they fled the flames.

We look different.

Some people love it; some hate it. But we're still the primary source of information for Delaware County.

Keep those calls and emails coming, folks.

We'll continue to tweak our appearance in the days and weeks to come.
