Welcome to the new Daily Times

There is a fairly stark reminder this morning that we do in fact still print a newspaper every day.

I spend so much time working online these days, Tweeting at the speed of sound and updating our Facebook offerings, it is far too easy to forget our print roots.

Not today.

That's because today we printed and delivered the first edition of the Daily Times under a new redesign.

Which leads to an obvious question.

What do you think?

After all, we did this for you, readers. We wanted to make our print edition more useful, something that better fits into the often hectic pace so many people live these days.

We wanted to offer a quick snapshot of your world, while of course continuing to press our in-depth coverage of Delaware County. That will never change.

But just about everything else about our presentation did. Our look is much cleaner and better organized.

We kept all the items that our readers have loved for years: Other Times, the Horoscopes, all our beloved comics, Dear Abby.

The thing I like the most this morning - and what I had been fearing for weeks - was what almost inevitably happens every time you go through a redesign.

I have been envisioning the phone calls for weeks:

"You made the type smaller."

We did not, and I don't think a glance at the two versions of the paper side by side proves it.

The truth is, what I think is not all that important.

Which is why I was so relieved to get an email bright and early this morning from reader Dave Bradley, who wanted to weigh in on our new look.

"Totally love the redesign," Bradley commented. "More enjoyable to read. Flows nicely. Well done."

Can't get much better than that. Thank you, Dave.

Of course, no first run will be without a couple of hiccups. Yes, that is a reference to our sister paper The Trentonian on P. 2. And we have to update the phone number for customer service with the good folks who now handle those duties for us.

So, what do you think?

Don't be shy. I'll be interested in what you have to say. Email me at editor@delcotimes.com, or pick up the phone and call me at 610-622-8818.

After all, it's your paper, dear readers. We're just the ones who redesigned it.
