I've never been much of a casino fan. I find them to be overwhelmingly depressing.
Too often the people I see frequenting them are the last people who should be.
The casino business in this region also can be depressing for another reason, at least for the folks behind Harrah's in Chester. Last week they learned they were getting new competition, with a second casino license granted to a group that wants to put a casino in the South Philly sports complex, just a stone's throw up I-95.
Could Pennsylvania's casino biz be getting ready to mimic what is happening in Atlantic City, where four gaming halls have closed their doors in recent months.
It's not out of the question.
Delaware County and Chester has a huge interest in Harrah's. That doesn't mean it won't fail.
As I said, it's depressing.
